Future Park

Last Thursday I presented at Metal Culture's new baby 'Future Park'; a regular monthly evening for "discussion, sharing ideas and projects, catching up with news and meeting old and new friends".
I had previously been one of the artists chosen for Metal's 3-minute wonder programme, on which these events are based, as well being a mini-version of the already concise Pecha Kucha format.

I was unable to make the initial June session and postponed to the second round, giving me ample time to prepare...and with such a wide scope the extra time was needed to shrink-wrap my ideas. It was perfectly fine for me to discuss my current practice but I decided to choose a topic that I hoped everyone could relate to; namely, the new wave of artist entrepreneurs seeking to monetize their advanced practical skills and cultural knowledge. I won't go over the spiel again here but suffice to say it was well received, if not my best delivery, and sparked some interesting conversations when later accompanied by a generous serving of sumptuous food and drink.

There were indeed old friends in attendance and it was great catching up with them, as well as hearing about other local creatives’ current work, including Stuart Bowditch and Damien Robinson who always have some fascinating projects on the go. The evening is free and open to the public so anyone can attend with notice to grace@metalculture.com and I recommend going to anyone that likes to engage with quick-fire presentations in a more intimate fashion than the parent Pecha Kucha format.

  1. yeah sorry I didn't get to speak to you too! lots to talk about and a very interesting evening:
somewhere I have a tape recording of a lecture I attended in the 90's and if my memory serves me well, it runs parallel to your talk at FP:
the speaker was the late Malcolm McClaren:
if I lay my hand to it, we can listen to it together!
liking the new layout btw: it's good to make these spaces your own ☯

  2. Wow, that sounds amazing, I'd love to hear that if you find it! See, that's the very reason why these events are needed! Thanks for liking the new layout - I like yours too. It's great when you can make a blog more personal - one day I'll actually learn how to modify the HTML and design one more bespoke but for now these layouts are fairly flexible and FREEEEEE! which is the most important thing of all for struggling creatives! I'm around for the next 3 weeks off work so let me know if you fins the recording and we can meet up! Ciao! x
